The Scenario:

A multinational company launched an initiative to revamp its technical infrastructure -- and standardize the delivery of its computing services around the world. The client's IT operations were decentralized; they wanted us to help them move quickly to a centralized model, offering additional services and more efficient operation.

Our Approach:

Our first task was to understand the company’s existing computing environment. Only then would we formulate a plan to reshape it.

The computing environment had grown as a result of mergers and acquisitions, decentralization of IT functions and the oursourcing of IT services to outside vendors. Our consultants gathered information through meetings with many of the client’s representatives – including business leads, technology personnel and outside vendors. Our primary objective was to paint the company’s computing environment in broad brushstrokes, without getting lost in unimportant details.

The Resolution:

Once we clearly understood and documented the existing layout, we collaborated with the client to develop an overall strategy for upgrading its networks, storage, servers, desktop systems, security and application development. We also created reference architecture for implementing that strategy.

Our final step looked to the future. We drew up a multi-year roadmap that specifically spelled out how to implement the strategy we had devised.
